HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Mary Haynes on the occasion of her retirement as Peoria City Clerk on June 26, 2012; and

WHEREAS, Mary Haynes has held the position of Peoria City Clerk since 1985; she began her career in city government in 1980 as an employee in the clerk's office under then-Clerk William Kumpf; she became the first elected female clerk in Peoria, replacing an appointed clerk, Frances Schwenger; and

WHEREAS, During her 27 years as clerk, Mary Haynes has served with 6 mayors, 39 City Council members, 10 city managers, 9 police chiefs and 7 fire chiefs; and

WHEREAS, Since 1990, Mary Haynes has taught new clerks throughout the State about the duties of office during a "Back to the Basics" seminar she created; in recent years, she has spearheaded the Rediscovering City Hall efforts, which add historical exhibits to the building, and will continue to work as a volunteer with the committee after her retirement; and

WHEREAS, Mary Haynes has earned multiple designations during her career and has served in leadership roles on numerous international, State, and regional boards and conferences; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Mary Haynes on the occasion of her retirement, thank her for many years of dedicated service to the citizens of Peoria, and wish her many happy and healthy retirement years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Mary Haynes as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
