HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Mary Haynes on the
4occasion of her retirement as Peoria City Clerk on June 26,
52012; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Mary Haynes has held the position of Peoria City
7Clerk since 1985; she began her career in city government in
81980 as an employee in the clerk's office under then-Clerk
9William Kumpf; she became the first elected female clerk in
10Peoria, replacing an appointed clerk, Frances Schwenger; and
 
11    WHEREAS, During her 27 years as clerk, Mary Haynes has
12served with 6 mayors, 39 City Council members, 10 city
13managers, 9 police chiefs and 7 fire chiefs; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Since 1990, Mary Haynes has taught new clerks
15throughout the State about the duties of office during a "Back
16to the Basics" seminar she created; in recent years, she has
17spearheaded the Rediscovering City Hall efforts, which add
18historical exhibits to the building, and will continue to work
19as a volunteer with the committee after her retirement; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Mary Haynes has earned multiple designations
21during her career and has served in leadership roles on

1numerous international, State, and regional boards and
2conferences; therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
4NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
5we congratulate Mary Haynes on the occasion of her retirement,
6thank her for many years of dedicated service to the citizens
7of Peoria, and wish her many happy and healthy retirement
8years; and be it further
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10presented to Mary Haynes as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
