HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Terrence
4James "T.J." Shirley of Lansing, who passed away on May 6,
52012; and
 
6    WHEREAS, He was born October 26, 1958 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa
7to Patrick and Caroline Shirley; he graduated from Fennimore
8High School in 1976 where he had an outstanding athletic career
9in track and cross country; he graduated from Dubuque
10University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in education in 1981;
11he was an outstanding track athlete and set many school
12records; and
 
13    WHEREAS, After graduation, he taught at several schools
14before teaching at Thornridge School District in Dolton; he
15later became the athletic director and physical education
16teacher along with coaching multiple sports in the school and
17community; and
 
18    WHEREAS, While teaching and coaching, he earned a Master's
19Degree in School Administration and a Master's Degree in
20Physical Education; and
 
21    WHEREAS, He was well known for his annual athletic field

1event known as "Blue Smoke"; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Terrence James "T.J." Shirley is survived by his
3parents, Patrick and Caroline Shirley; his sons, Cameron and
4Joshua; his daughter, Marissa; his brothers, George and Shaun
5(Kristie); his sisters, Teresa McElree and Vallerie Lynn; and
620 nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
9we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of
10Terrence "T.J." Shirley; and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the family of Terrence James "T.J." Shirley as a
13symbol of our sincere sympathy.
