HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate our friend and colleague, Illinois State Representative Jack McGuire, on the occasion of his retirement after many years of service to the people of the State of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Representative Jack McGuire, also known as "Gentleman Jack" by his fellow Representatives, was born and raised in Joliet; after graduating from Joliet Catholic High School and attending Joliet Junior College, he graduated from Colorado State College and began a career as a teacher and coach; he also served as the Joliet Township Supervisor prior to his work in the Illinois House of Representatives; and

WHEREAS, Representative McGuire served his country with pride as a member of the United States Army and served overseas during his time there; and

WHEREAS, Representative McGuire has served the people of the 86th District since 1991; during his tenure, he has served on the House Transportation, Railroad, Federal Funding, Tourism, and Aging Committees; he also served as the chairperson of the Aging Committee from the 90th General Assembly to the 93rd General Assembly; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his legislative career, Representative McGuire has made it his duty to speak for children, senior citizens, people with disabilities, and others who did not have a voice of their own; he worked to secure additional grants for school safety and education improvement and fought ceaselessly to improve education standards; he also worked to expand the circuit breaker and pharmaceutical assistance program, which enabled lower-income Illinois seniors to receive affordable prescription drugs and property tax relief; and

WHEREAS, Representative McGuire is an active member of his community; he is a member of numerous social service boards, including the Salvation Army, the Senior Services Center, the Will/Grundy Medical Clinic, Foster Grandparents, the Housing Foundation, and the Center for Independent Living; he has also served as the Secretary and Vice-President of the Irish-American Society; and

WHEREAS, Representative McGuire has been the recipient of numerous awards for his work, including the Legislator of the Year award by the American Red Cross, the Zeke Giorgi Labor Award, and the Josephine Oblinger Award; he has also been honored by the Will County Farm Bureau, the Region Two Area Agency on Aging, the Senior Services Center, the Senior Companion Program, the American Cancer Society, and Citizens with Disabilities for his many legislative achievements; and

WHEREAS, Representative McGuire will enjoy his well-earned retirement with his loving wife, Patricia, his children, and his grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate our friend and colleague, Illinois State Representative Jack McGuire, on his retirement from the Illinois House of Representatives and wish him the best in his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Representative Jack McGuire as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
