HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Steven Michael Simmons on the occasion of attaining the coveted rank of Eagle Scout; and

WHEREAS, Steven Simmons is currently a senior at Hoffman Estates High School in Hoffman Estates, where he spent 2 years as a junior varsity member and 2 years as a varsity member of the school's gymnastics team; and

WHEREAS, Steven Simmons has been involved in Scouting since he joined as a Tiger Cub; he earned the Arrow of Light as a Webelos Scout before crossing over to Boy Scouts in 2005; he later joined Venturing Crew 808; and

WHEREAS, During his time as a Boy Scout and Venturer, Steven Simmons earned 36 merit badges, well over the 21 badges required to earn the rank of Eagle; in 2007, he was elected to the Lakota Lodge of the Order of the Arrow by his peers in Troop 297 and is now a brotherhood honor member of the lodge; he served as a counselor-in-training and staff member at Camp Napowan in Wisconsin; he has served as a RSA Life Guard and a BSA Climbing and Rappelling Instructor and is certified in CPR and First Aid; he has also worked several summers as a lifeguard and often helps with climbing and rappelling events at Camp Lakota and at Devil's Lake State Park in Baraboo, Wisconsin; and

WHEREAS, To achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, Steven Simmons landscaped the grounds at the offices of the Society for the Preservation of Human Dignity, which is located in Inverness; and

WHEREAS, The rank of Eagle Scout will be bestowed upon Steven Simmons by the Boy Scouts of America at a Court of Honor ceremony on May 20, 2012; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Steven Michael Simmons on the occasion of attaining the coveted rank of Eagle Scout and wish him continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Steven Simmons as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
