SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
ILCON Art. IV, Sec. 2.5 new

    Proposes to amend the Legislature Article of the Illinois Constitution. Prohibits a Representative from serving more than 6 terms of office as a Representative. Prohibits a Senator from serving more than 3 terms of office as a Senator. Effective upon being declared adopted. Applies to the election of General Assembly members beginning in the first general election after the date the amendment is declared adopted.

CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT

 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
4NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
5SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that there shall be submitted to the
6electors of the State for adoption or rejection at the general
7election next occurring at least 6 months after the adoption of
8this resolution a proposition to amend the Illinois
9Constitution in Article IV by adding Section 2.5 as follows:

THE LEGISLATURE

12    (ILCON Art. IV, Sec. 2.5 new)
13SECTION 2.5. TERM LIMITS
14    (a) A person may not serve more than 6 terms of office as a
15Representative.
16    (b) A person may not serve more than 3 terms of office as a
17Senator.
18    (c) A person is considered to serve a term of office for
19the purpose of this Section if the person is elected or
20appointed to serve any portion of the term.

SCHEDULE
22    This Constitutional Amendment takes effect upon being
23declared adopted in accordance with Section 7 of the Illinois

1Constitutional Amendment Act and applies to the election of
2members of the General Assembly beginning in the first general
3election that occurs after that date.
