SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
305 ILCS 5/4-1.6c new
305 ILCS 5/12-4.45 new

    Amends the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families and the Administration Articles of the Illinois Public Aid Code. Provides that to be eligible for benefits under the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program an assistance unit's household assets must not exceed $10,000, excluding (i) the value of the residence in which the assistance unit resides and (ii) the value of 2 vehicles, not including a recreational vehicle, used by the assistance unit for transportation purposes. Provides that subject to federal approval, the Department of Human Services shall restrict eligibility for benefits under the federally funded Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) (formerly Food Stamp Program) to applicants whose household assets do not exceed $10,000, excluding (i) the value of the residence in which the applicant resides and (ii) the value of 2 vehicles, not including a recreational vehicle, used by the applicant for transportation purposes. Effective January 1, 2013.

1    AN ACT concerning public aid.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Public Aid Code is amended by
5adding Sections 4-1.6c and 12-4.45 as follows:
 
6    (305 ILCS 5/4-1.6c new)
7    Sec. 4-1.6c. Asset test. To be eligible for benefits under
8this Article the assistance unit's household assets must not
9exceed $10,000, excluding (i) the value of the residence in
10which the assistance unit resides and (ii) the value of 2
11vehicles, not including a recreational vehicle as defined in
12the Campground Licensing and Recreational Area Act, used by the
13assistance unit for transportation purposes.

15    Sec. 12-4.45. Asset test; SNAP. Subject to federal
16approval, the Department of Human Services shall restrict
