SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
110 ILCS 330/10 new
210 ILCS 5/6.10 new
210 ILCS 85/6.03 new

    Amends the University of Illinois Hospital Act, the Ambulatory Surgical Treatment Center Act, and the Hospital Licensing Act. Provides that whenever an ambulatory surgical treatment center or hospital provides treatment to a patient that involves placement of bone, an organ, other human tissue, or any foreign object, including, but not limited to, artificial joints and other prostheses, into the patient's body, the ambulatory surgical treatment center or hospital must fully disclose at least the following to the patient: the source of the bone, organ, other human tissue, or foreign object; the date it was obtained; the date it was placed in the patient; and the location of the placement in the patient's body. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning regulation.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The University of Illinois Hospital Act is
5amended by adding Section 10 as follows:
 
6    (110 ILCS 330/10 new)
7    Sec. 10. Placement of bone, organ, other human tissue, or
8any foreign object in patient's body; disclosure. Whenever the
9University of Illinois Hospital provides treatment to a patient
10that involves placement of bone, an organ, other human tissue,
11or any foreign object, including, but not limited to,
12artificial joints and other prostheses, into the patient's
13body, the hospital must fully disclose at least the following
14to the patient: the source of the bone, organ, other human
15tissue, or foreign object; the date it was obtained; the date
16it was placed in the patient's body; and the location of the
17placement in the patient's body.
 
18    Section 10. The Ambulatory Surgical Treatment Center Act is
19amended by adding Section 6.10 as follows:
 
20    (210 ILCS 5/6.10 new)

11    Section 15. The Hospital Licensing Act is amended by adding
12Section 6.03 as follows:
 
13    (210 ILCS 85/6.03 new)
14    Sec. 6.03. Placement of bone, organ, other human tissue, or
15any foreign object in patient's body; disclosure. Whenever a
16hospital provides treatment to a patient that involves
17placement of bone, an organ, other human tissue, or any foreign
18object, including, but not limited to, artificial joints and
19other prostheses, into the patient's body, the hospital must
20fully disclose at least the following to the patient: the
21source of the bone, organ, other human tissue, or foreign
22object; the date it was obtained; the date it was placed in the
23patient's body; and the location of the placement in the
24patient's body.

1    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
2becoming law.
