SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Dewane "Dewey" Steele of Rock Island,
4who passed away on February 17, 2024; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dewane Steele was born in Rock Island to Henry
6and Florence Steele on November 20, 1937; he graduated from
7Rock Island High School in 1955 and joined the U.S. Air Force;
8he married Carol Schmidt Lowry on April 7, 1979; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Dewane Steele started his career with Illinois
10Bell as a telephone installer repairman and was promoted to
11management in 1970; he was transferred to AT&T after the
12divestiture in 1985 and retired from AT&T in 1988; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Dewane Steele was a lifelong fan of the Chicago
14Cubs, Chicago Bears, and Rock Island High School sports; in
15his later years, he was able to enjoy time working at Highland
16Springs Golf Course and would often say how he loved watching
17the golf course wake up; he valued his family and friends; he
18was a hilarious storyteller and had a kind heart; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Dewane Steele was preceded in death by his
20parents and his sisters, Wanda Johnson and Marylou Hartsock;
21and

1    WHEREAS, Dewane Steele is survived by his wife, Carol; his
2children, Beth (Jeff) Friichtenicht, Brenda (Shawn) Herman,
3Diana Steele Meador, Danny (Dusky), and Darrin (Sothy); 13
4grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
6ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
7Dewane "Dewey" Steele and extend our sincere condolences to
8his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
9further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to the family of Dewane Steele as an expression of
12our deepest sympathy.
