SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Jeannette M. Zeck, who passed away on
4February 19, 2019 at the age of 50; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jeannette Zeck was born on August 19, 1968 and
6grew up in Lake County, where she attended high school in
7Grayslake, and later became a resident of Oak Park; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Jeannette Zeck attended Knox College and met her
9future husband on their first day in Galesburg; they noticed
10each other but did not go on their first date until a year
11later on March 5, 1987; they were married in September of 1998;
12she then attended DePaul University in order to earn her
13master's degree in psychology; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Jeannette Zeck worked at a shelter for homeless
15women during her time at DePaul, finding a sense of purpose and
16pride in helping them; she counseled and cooked for the women
17at the shelter and typically ended or started her shifts at
18midnight; she then started working in the mail room of the
19Chicago Laborers Pension and Welfare fund, beginning a 26 year
20career, and eventually became the director of the pension
21department, overseeing a staff of 16; and

1    WHEREAS, Jeannette Zeck developed an interest in gardening
2and growing her own food while living with her husband in Oak
3Park; this led to the development of the Deep Roots Project, an
4organization that promotes the use of native plants and growing
5healthy foods; together, she and her husband planted 16 parkway
6gardens in the area; she converted to Buddhism shortly after
7her husband converted, finding that it made a positive impact
8on her life; she then became a member of the Kadampa Meditation
9Center of Chicago; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Jeannette Zeck was preceded in death by her
11parents, Harold and Catherine Zeck; her sister, Elizabeth Zeck;
12and her brother, Stephen Zeck; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Jeannette Zeck is survived by her husband, David
14Murphy; her sisters, Patricia Carlson and Theresa O'Reilly; her
15brother, David Zeck; her sisters-in-law, Linda and Kathleen;
16her brother-in-law, Richard; and her nieces and nephews that
17she considered her own, Elizabeth, Nicole, Megan, Shelbie,
18Alexia, Michael, and Louis; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
20ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
21Jeannette M. Zeck and extend our sincere condolences to her
22family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
23further
