SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Ruth Naomi Ulmer, who passed away on October 15, 2009; and

WHEREAS, Ruth Ulmer was born on February 17, 1916, in Wahalak, Mississippi; her parents were Doug and Jenny Stennis; and

WHEREAS, In 1927, Ruth Ulmer was baptized and became a member of the First Baptist Church of Wahalak, Mississippi; in 1938, she joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Rev. Haney; and

WHEREAS, In September of 1943, Ruth Ulmer became a State-certified beautician and became one of many entrepreneurs who styled hair in her kitchen; in 1944, she was united in holy matrimony to George Washington Ulmer; and

WHEREAS, Ruth Ulmer was a faithful member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church; she served as president of the Pastor's Aid under Mt. Zion pastors W.B. House, C. Cedric Claiborne, and John H. Rouse; she was also a member and President of the Gospel Chorus; in 1998, she moved to Los Angeles, California and became a member of the Faithful Central Church, where her son, Bishop Kenneth Ulmer, serves as Pastor; and

WHEREAS, Ruth Ulmer is preceded in death by her husband, George; and

WHEREAS, Ruth Ulmer is survived by her sons, Bishop Kenneth Ulmer (Togetta) and Douglas H. McDaniel; her daughter, Kathy Elmer; her grandchildren, RoShaun Windham (John), Keniya Moore (Rev. Jody), and Kendan Ulmer; her great-grandchildren, Ayari and Aniya Windham and Kamryn, Raegan, and Bailee Moore; and her many other relatives and friends; and

WHEREAS, Ruth Ulmer will be remembered by all who knew and loved her as a strong woman of God, whose faith, wonderful smile, and great humor endeared her to everyone she met; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Ruth Naomi Ulmer; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Ruth Ulmer as an expression of our sympathy.
