SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Leanna Katrina Curry German of Chicago, who passed away on September 29, 2009; and

WHEREAS, She was born on October 30, 1930 in Medon, Tennessee to Mary Celestine (Donald) and Donnell Curry, Sr.; she attended elementary school in Centreville and graduated from Lincoln Senior High School in 1949; and

WHEREAS, Lee, as she was affectionately called, married Berwyn Morgan in 1950 and they had one child; she married Jonnie German in 1972 and they enjoyed 32 years together until his passing in 2004; and

WHEREAS, She worked for Stix, Baer, and Fuller, employed as a waitress in the tea room; she served as Executive Director of the Emily Willis Day Care until its closing; and she later employed as a caseworker with General Assistance, where she retired; and

WHEREAS, She was a dedicated member of the Truelight Baptist Church and served with the Willing Workers Culinary Committee; she was an active participant in the Lincoln High School Forty-Niners; and she enjoyed caring for her friends and family, and cooked for anyone, never asking for or needing help; and

WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Margaret, Mary Frances, Bernice, and Geneva; and her brother, Donnell, Jr.; and

WHEREAS, Leanna German is survived by her daughter, Sandra Lanette (Ulysses) Cox; her grandson, Eric Lamont (Jessica) Cox; her great-grandson, Eric Lamont, Jr.; her stepchildren, Jerry (Sandra), Terry, Perry (Shirley), Jonnie, Jr. (Rochelle), and Timothy German; the German grandchildren, Jerry, Jr., Sharondolyn, Patrick, Perry, Jr., Melanie, Jonnie, Jr., Timothy, II, Nathaniel, and Antonio German; her sister, Shirley (Dr. Herschel) Garrett; her stepmother, Ethel B. Curry; her brother-in-law, Wesley Momon; her godchildren, Mrs. Felita Tharp McCaskill and Levander Smith, Jr.; her life-long friends, Wilhelmina Smith and Myrtle Woody; and her nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Leanna German; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Leanna German as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
