SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Charles "Charlie" Mohr Sr. of Godfrey, who passed away on June 15, 2009; and

WHEREAS, He was born on June 1, 1927, in Springfield and raised at the Catholic Children's Home in Alton; and

WHEREAS, He married his beloved wife of 54 years, the former Mary Lou Ferk, on May 28, 1955, at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church; and

WHEREAS, He retired in 1993 from Beall Manufacturing in East Alton after 37 years of service; he served as president of the Machinist Union Local 660 for 27 years; he was also president of the Federation of Labor for several years; and

WHEREAS, He was very active in the area Democratic Party politics; he was a longtime member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, a member of the Alton Moose Lodge 951 since 1971, and a member of the Alton Eagles FOE 254; he enjoyed working in his prized rose garden and especially enjoyed being the local "Santa" for the Alton Moose, numerous schools, and neighborhoods; in addition, he loved his music, singing, and especially playing his harmonica; and

WHEREAS, Charles Mohr Sr. will be missed by his beloved wife, Mary Lou; he will be missed by his son, Charles "Chipper" Mohr Jr.; his grandchildren, Allison Mohr and Charles "Charlie" Mohr III; his sister-in-law, Juanita Kennedy; and his nieces, nephews, and good friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Charles "Charlie" Mohr Sr.; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Charles "Charlie" Mohr Sr. as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
