SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Jewel Ray Lane of Collinsville, who passed away on April 7, 2009; and

WHEREAS, Jewel Ray Lane was born June 14, 1927, in East St. Louis; Mr. Lane attended Collinsville Township High School in the class of 1946; he served in the United States Navy during World War II and Korea, earning the Philippine Liberation, Asiatic Pacific Fleet, World War II Victoria, and the Good Conduct Medal; and

WHEREAS, He retired from Union Electric, Venice Power Plant in 1983 after 35 years of employment; he was a member of the Collinsville Jaycee's, serving as president in 1958, helping with the construction of Woodland Park, and starting the Miss Collinsville Pageant; he was a member of Masonic Lodge 712 (50 year pin), Scottish Rite, and Ainad Temple; and he was a past president of the Collinsville Shrine Club, Ainad Drum and Bugle, and Hospital Unit; and

WHEREAS, He served as a hospital guide for Shriner's Hospital since 1971, and a member of Road Runners, which transports children to the hospitals in Cincinnati, Chicago, and St. Louis; he received the Ainad Shriner of the Year Award in 1992; he was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Collinsville, where he was an usher for 55 years; and he was a lifetime member of the Collinsville V.F.W.; and

WHEREAS, Jewel Ray Lane was preceded in death by his parents, Slete Adam and Minnie Mae, nee Higgins, Lane; his sister, Hilda Mae Dunning; his brother, Donald Lee Lane; and his daughter-in-law, Jane Mateer Lane; and

WHEREAS, Jewel Ray Lane is survived by his wife, Lois Marian, nee Schoppe, Lane, whom he married on October 9, 1948; his children, Dale Lane, Karen Rae Lane, Susan (Terry) Koste, and Steve Lane; his grandchildren, Karla (Daimon) Russell, Amy (Tom) Noascono, Rebecca (Michael) Collins, Sarah (Jeff) Watkins, Tara Koste, Jennifer Koste, and Robert (Laura) Lane; and his great-grandchildren, Rachel, Courtney, Andrea, and Dylan Russell, Keely and Kobe Collins, and Sophia Noascono; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Jewel Ray Lane; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Jewel Lane as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
