SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Jewel Ray Lane of Collinsville, who
4 passed away on April 7, 2009; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Jewel Ray Lane was born June 14, 1927, in East St.
6 Louis; Mr. Lane attended Collinsville Township High School in
7 the class of 1946; he served in the United States Navy during
8 World War II and Korea, earning the Philippine Liberation,
9 Asiatic Pacific Fleet, World War II Victoria, and the Good
10 Conduct Medal; and
 
11     WHEREAS, He retired from Union Electric, Venice Power Plant
12 in 1983 after 35 years of employment; he was a member of the
13 Collinsville Jaycee's, serving as president in 1958, helping
14 with the construction of Woodland Park, and starting the Miss
15 Collinsville Pageant; he was a member of Masonic Lodge 712 (50
16 year pin), Scottish Rite, and Ainad Temple; and he was a past
17 president of the Collinsville Shrine Club, Ainad Drum and
18 Bugle, and Hospital Unit; and
 
19     WHEREAS, He served as a hospital guide for Shriner's
20 Hospital since 1971, and a member of Road Runners, which
21 transports children to the hospitals in Cincinnati, Chicago,
22 and St. Louis; he received the Ainad Shriner of the Year Award

1 in 1992; he was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ
2 in Collinsville, where he was an usher for 55 years; and he was
3 a lifetime member of the Collinsville V.F.W.; and
 
4     WHEREAS, Jewel Ray Lane was preceded in death by his
5 parents, Slete Adam and Minnie Mae, nee Higgins, Lane; his
6 sister, Hilda Mae Dunning; his brother, Donald Lee Lane; and
7 his daughter-in-law, Jane Mateer Lane; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Jewel Ray Lane is survived by his wife, Lois
9 Marian, nee Schoppe, Lane, whom he married on October 9, 1948;
10 his children, Dale Lane, Karen Rae Lane, Susan (Terry) Koste,
11 and Steve Lane; his grandchildren, Karla (Daimon) Russell, Amy
12 (Tom) Noascono, Rebecca (Michael) Collins, Sarah (Jeff)
13 Watkins, Tara Koste, Jennifer Koste, and Robert (Laura) Lane;
14 and his great-grandchildren, Rachel, Courtney, Andrea, and
15 Dylan Russell, Keely and Kobe Collins, and Sophia Noascono;
16 therefore, be it
 
17     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
18 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
19 his family and friends, the passing of Jewel Ray Lane; and be
20 it further
 
21     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22 presented to the family of Jewel Lane as a symbol of our
