SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Joseph Bernard Kristan of North Chicago, who passed away on February 18, 2009; and

WHEREAS, He was born May 19, 1912 in North Chicago, to Herman and Elizabeth (nee Fincutter) Kristan; he graduated from Waukegan Township High School in 1930 and Walton School of Commerce, Chicago in 1931; and

WHEREAS, He was employed by the United States Postal Service in North Chicago from 1937-1967; he later worked for the Building and Zoning Department for Lake County and was a member of the Lake County Zoning Board of Appeals for many years; and

WHEREAS, He was a resident of North Chicago, Nalcrest, Florida, Branson, Missouri, and returned to Lake County in 2000; he was a veteran of World War II as a member of the United States Navy; he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #731 in Waukegan, where he served as Grand Knight in 1958 and 1959 and Navigator of the 4th Degree of Bishop Quarter General Assembly, Knights of Columbus of Lake County in 1957 and 1958; he was a member of the American Legion Sharvin Post #397 in North Chicago, a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers, Waukegan Council #409, and a charter member of the Navy Mail Service Veterans Association; and

WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his first wife, Vivian; his second wife, Mary Alice; his son, Kevin; and his sisters, Agnes Kutzler Mahler and Rita Madruh; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Kristan is survived by his children, Jo Ann Wilde, Lynette Fuerst, Cheryl Campbell, Joseph (Judie), Thomas (Jo Ann), Therese (Lawrence) Stickler, Michelle (Robert) Wysiatko, and Jeffrey; his sister, Bernice Bittner, his brothers-in-law, Bob (Rosalie) and Bill (Jean) Campbell; his twenty grandchildren; his eleven great-grandchildren; and his many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Joseph B. Kristan; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Joseph Kristan as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
