HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Dennis Harris on the occasion of his retirement as Deputy Chief of the Crystal Lake Police Department on January 29, 2010; and

WHEREAS, Dennis Harris graduated from Maine West High School in 1972; he earned his bachelor's degree in law enforcement administration from Western Illinois University in May of 1976; and

WHEREAS, Dennis Harris has had a long and distinguished career in law enforcement; he began his career as a dispatcher and Community Service Officer with the Palatine Police Department in June of 1976, serving in that position until August of 1977; he was employed with the Rolling Meadows Police Department from August of 1977 until July of 1978; from July of 1978 until January of 1983, he was employed with the East Dundee Police Department as a Patrolman, Firearms Instructor, and Communications Officer; and

WHEREAS, On January 10, 1983, Dennis Harris accepted a position with the Crystal Lake Police Department as a Probationary Police Officer; in 1984, he was assigned to the Emergency Services Team (EST) as a Tactical Officer; that same year, he was assigned as a Field Training Officer; in 1989, he was assigned to the EST Negotiators; in 1992, he was assigned as a Range Officer for the department; in 1998, he was assigned as a EST Marksman; that same year, he was appointed to serve as a Department Training Officer, a position he held until 2003; and

WHEREAS, On May 8, 2000, Dennis Harris was promoted to the rank of Sergeant; in 2002, he was appointed to serve as Records Commander; in 2004, he was assigned to the McHenry County E-911 Board; on September 27, 2005, he was promoted to the rank of Deputy Chief, a position he held until his retirement; and

WHEREAS, Dennis Harris was the organizer and coordinator of the first 6 Crystal Lake Citizen Police Academies; in 2009, he served as Acting Executive Director of Southeast Emergency Communications; and

WHEREAS, Dennis Harris has been the recipient of 6 Commendations for his meritorious service with the Crystal Lake Police Department; and

WHEREAS, Dennis Harris is a member of numerous law enforcement organizations, including the Illinois Tactical Officers Association, the Midwest Regional Crisis Negotiators, the Illinois Police Instructor Trainers Association, the Illinois Crisis Negotiators Association, the Emergency Telephone System Board, the Illinois Chiefs of Police, the McHenry County Chiefs of Police, the American Society of Law Enforcement Trainers, the International Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors, the Police Marksman Association, the Illinois Police Association, and the Northwestern University Center for Public Safety Alumni Association; and

WHEREAS, Dennis Harris has been a resident of Crystal Lake for 32 years; he and his wife, Christine, have been happily married for 32 years; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Dennis Harris on the occasion of his retirement and wish him many happy and healthy retirement years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Dennis Harris as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
