HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate George Zamp, World War II Army Veteran, on being honored during the 8th Annual Mayfair Remembrance Day: Salute to American Heroes; and

WHEREAS, George Zamp joined the United States Navy after high school graduation; he was assigned to the U.S.S. Casablanca and trained as a gunner; and

WHEREAS, The U.S.S. Casablanca saw service in the Pacific Theater of Operations, serving under the command of Admiral Nimitz; and

WHEREAS, George was honorably discharged in January of 1946; he received the World War II Victory Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal, the American Campaign Medal, and the National Defense Medal; and

WHEREAS, After leaving the service he worked for his brother at his gas station, then became a photo engraver for Superior Graphics; he was a member of the photoengraver's union for 32 years, as well as the Photoengravers Association of America, where he received the Certificate of Craftsmanship, its highest level of achievement; and

WHEREAS, He continues to live near his birthplace, almost 40 feet across the alley, and is a lifelong Mayfair resident; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate George Zamp on this honor and thank him for his years of service to his country; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to George Zamp as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
