HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Lannie LeGear of Chicago, who passed away on March 7, 2009; and

WHEREAS, Lannie LeGear earned her doctorate in educational psychology and special education from the University of Southern California and completed the family therapy training program at Northwestern University's Family Institute; and

WHEREAS, Lannie LeGear was originally from St. Louis, Missouri; she taught at Purdue University for three years before coming to Chicago in the 1970s; after arriving in Chicago, she taught at St. Xavier and Roosevelt Universities; she served as clinical director at The Cove School for children with learning disabilities in the early 1980s; and

WHEREAS, After her stint at The Cove School, Lannie LeGear went into private practice; from her home office, she worked with kids suffering from attention-deficit disorder, learning disabilities, and developmental disorders; she was a stalwart advocate for the children she assessed and backed parents who often were rebuffed in their efforts to get help; and

WHEREAS, Lannie LeGear was the board chair of the Community Counseling Centers of Chicago since 1998; and

WHEREAS, Lannie LeGear and her partner, Dorothy O'Byrne, sponsored a refugee Laotian family of eight in 1979 and took in the family's two youngest members, a girl and a boy who were then 10 and 14 years old; Dr. LeGear and O'Byrne came to consider themselves members of the family; and

WHEREAS, Lannie LeGear is survived by her partner; her stepmother, Jean LeGear Flocks; and her brothers, Dan and Scott; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Lannie LeGear; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Lannie LeGear as an expression of our sympathy.
