HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Susan I. "Sue" Staley of Springfield, who passed away on December 27, 2010; and

WHEREAS, She was born October 20, 1946 in Springfield to Louis H. "Newt" and Wilma M. Ley Staley; she married Jim Gardner on February 14, 1999; and

WHEREAS, She was a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy and the University of Illinois-Springfield; she was a lifelong Democrat and a Precinct Committeewoman; she was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Eagles Aerie Auxiliary; and

WHEREAS, She loved to play bingo and was a resident of Springfield her entire life; she loved to travel, but hated to fly; she loved boating and fishing, but hated the water; she loved Las Vegas and Tunica, but did not like gambling; and she said she was a terrible cook, but everything she made was delicious; and

WHEREAS, She worked for 42 years for the State of Illinois, the past 35 years for the House of Representatives; she retired in 2008, last working for former State Representative Kurt Granberg; during her long career serving the Members of the Illinois House of Representatives, she earned an outstanding reputation as one of the most loyal, helpful, and friendly employees of the House; and

WHEREAS, Sue Staley is survived by her husband, Jim Gardner; her mother, Wilma M. Staley; her step-daughter, Stacey Gardner; her sisters, Jane Staley, Laura (Steven Goldstein) Staley, and Rita (Kevin) Gallagher; her sister-in-law, Cindy (Steve) Dahlhauser; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family, friends, and others, the passing of Susan "Sue" Staley; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Sue Staley as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
