HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Kimberly Rothstein and the members of the Troy 30-C Special Olympics basketball team on the occasion of the successful formation of their team; and

WHEREAS, The idea to form the Troy 30-C Special Olympics basketball team came from Kimberly Rothstein, a teacher at Crossroads Elementary School, whose friend, a Chicago public school teacher, had experienced great success with a Special Olympics program; inspired by her friend's success, Ms. Rothstein met with Ken Surma, the interim director of transportation and former assistant principal at Troy Middle School, about forming a team in Troy; Mr. Surma, excited about the prospect, helped supply the team with uniforms, basketballs, and storage bags for the team to get started; he also arranged for the team to have a joint practice with the seventh and eighth-grade team at Troy Middle School; and

WHEREAS, This year, Ms. Rothstein formed a basketball team in order to try out the program and hopes to build a full team next year; the students are currently practicing their dribbling, passing, and shooting skills for a skills competition in February of 2009, in which any gold medal winners will move on to the Statewide competition; and

WHEREAS, The members of the Troy Special Olympics basketball team are Daija Vick, Stephanie Pransky, Elizabeth Ketcherside, Mitchell Houlihan, Bobby Casares, Christian Cisneros, Noah Baker, Alondra Diaz, Jennifer Taylor, Alex Arias, Dylan Boulanger, Andy McCarty, Davon Yates, Tommy Martinez, Justin Petrizzo, and Clevonte Tate; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Kimberly Rothstein and the members of the Troy 30-C Special Olympics basketball team on the occasion of the successful formation of their team and wish them continued success and happiness in their future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Kimberly Rothstein as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
