HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Mary Sweadner on
4her 100th birthday; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mary was born on September 30th, 1910 in the small
6town of Lynd, Minnesota; she was the second of six children
7welcomed by Frederick and Mabel Vanstrom; and
 
8    WHEREAS, After graduating from Winona State Teachers
9College, Mary began working at the local Montgomery Wards
10store, earning a good salary and sending money home to help
11with the younger kids; it was the Great Depression, and she
12would often have a 5-cent Coke for breakfast, cheaper than
13orange juice; Wards later sent Mary to their stores throughout
14Minnesota and the Dakotas when she discovered an accounting
15error; Mary was then sent to the company headquarters in
16Chicago, where she worked in "Standard Procedures"; and
 
17    WHEREAS, She fell in love with the City of Chicago; she
18loved going to the Art Institute, and has been a long-time
19member; she met the new guy in the finance department at Wards,
20Richard Sweadner, they had a whirlwind courtship, and were
21married on August 2, 1946; and

1    WHEREAS, Dick and Mary welcomed daughter, Sandra, then two
2years later, Nancy; life changed again when Dick passed away
3from heart surgery in 1960; Mary returned to work in 1961; she
4worked at The First National Bank of Lincolnwood; working at
5the bank in Lincolnwood was something Mary really loved; she
6was the Assistant Cashier and an officer when she retired in
71985; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Mary is blessed to have such a close and loving
9family: her daughters, Sandi and Nancy; their husbands, Keith
10and Bill; her grandchildren, Allison(Zach), Becky(Dan), Amy,
11Krista, Cassie, and Michael(Anne); her great-grandson, Dillon
12and two more on the way; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
14NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
15congratulate Mary Sweadner on her 100th birthday and wish her
16continued happiness and good health; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to Mary Sweadner as a symbol of our respect and
19esteem.
