HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to recognize the several
4significant anniversaries of Beta Rho Chapter of Theta Chi
5Fraternity at Illinois Wesleyan University; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Beta Rho Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity was
7originally founded at Illinois Wesleyan University in 1919 as
8Pi Mu Epsilon Fraternity, became Rho Chapter of Beta Kappa
9Fraternity (1926), and then Beta Rho Chapter of Theta Chi
10Fraternity (1942); the chapter has owned three chapter houses
11in Bloomington at 915 North Main (1922), 814 North Main (1960),
12and 404 East Beecher (1980); and
 
13    WHEREAS, Beta Rho Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity and its
14predecessor organizations have, for 91 years, been an important
15part of the Illinois Wesleyan University community; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Alumni from Beta Rho Chapter of Theta Chi
17Fraternity and its predecessor organizations include
18noteworthy leaders in fields that include the arts, business,
19education, government, healthcare, law, the military, and many
20others; and
 
21    WHEREAS, The Creed of Theta Chi, which identifies the

1ideals of the fraternity, state: "I believe in Theta Chi, its
2traditions and its ideals. Born of sturdy manhood, nurtured by
3resolute men, ennobled by high and sacred purpose, it has taken
4its place among the educational institutions of America as a
5promoter of knowledge, an advancer of culture and a builder of
6character. It inspires true friendship: teaches Truth,
7Temperance, and Tolerance, extols virtue, exacts harmony, and
8extends a helping hand to all who seek it. I believe in the
9primacy of Alma Mater; in the usefulness of my Fraternity, in
10its influence and its accomplishments and I shall do all in my
11power to perpetuate its ideals, thereby serving my God, my
12country and my fellow-man"; and
 
13    WHEREAS, The members and alumni of Beta Rho Chapter of
14Theta Chi Fraternity attempt, in their daily lives, to
15perpetuate the fraternities' ideals, including support for
16their alma mater; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Beta Rho Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity is
18celebrating the 50th anniversary of the opening of its chapter
19house at 814 North Main, and the 30th anniversary of the
20opening of the chapter house at 404 East Beecher; therefore, be
21it
 
22    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
23NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we

1recognize and honor the 91st anniversary of the original
2founding of Beta Rho Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity and the
350th and 30th anniversaries of its two most recent chapter
4houses; and be it further
 
5    RESOLVED, That we commend all Beta Rho of Theta Chi
6brothers, past and present, for their bond of friendship,
7common ideals and beliefs, and service to the community; and be
8it further
 
9    RESOLVED, That we express our best wishes for the Beta Rho
10Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity's continued success and growth;
11and be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That October 9, 2010 be proclaimed as Beta Rho of
13Theta Chi Day in the State of Illinois; and be it further
14
15    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
16presented to the President of Illinois Wesleyan University, the
17Executive Director of Theta Chi Fraternity, Inc., the President
18of the Beta Rho Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity, and the
19President of the Beta Rho Chapter of Theta Chi Alumni
20Association as symbols of our respect and esteem.
