HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to recognize the several significant anniversaries of Beta Rho Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity at Illinois Wesleyan University; and

WHEREAS, Beta Rho Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity was originally founded at Illinois Wesleyan University in 1919 as Pi Mu Epsilon Fraternity, became Rho Chapter of Beta Kappa Fraternity (1926), and then Beta Rho Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity (1942); the chapter has owned three chapter houses in Bloomington at 915 North Main (1922), 814 North Main (1960), and 404 East Beecher (1980); and

WHEREAS, Beta Rho Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity and its predecessor organizations have, for 91 years, been an important part of the Illinois Wesleyan University community; and

WHEREAS, Alumni from Beta Rho Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity and its predecessor organizations include noteworthy leaders in fields that include the arts, business, education, government, healthcare, law, the military, and many others; and

WHEREAS, The Creed of Theta Chi, which identifies the ideals of the fraternity, state: "I believe in Theta Chi, its traditions and its ideals. Born of sturdy manhood, nurtured by resolute men, ennobled by high and sacred purpose, it has taken its place among the educational institutions of America as a promoter of knowledge, an advancer of culture and a builder of character. It inspires true friendship: teaches Truth, Temperance, and Tolerance, extols virtue, exacts harmony, and extends a helping hand to all who seek it. I believe in the primacy of Alma Mater; in the usefulness of my Fraternity, in its influence and its accomplishments and I shall do all in my power to perpetuate its ideals, thereby serving my God, my country and my fellow-man"; and

WHEREAS, The members and alumni of Beta Rho Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity attempt, in their daily lives, to perpetuate the fraternities' ideals, including support for their alma mater; and

WHEREAS, Beta Rho Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the opening of its chapter house at 814 North Main, and the 30th anniversary of the opening of the chapter house at 404 East Beecher; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize and honor the 91st anniversary of the original founding of Beta Rho Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity and the 50th and 30th anniversaries of its two most recent chapter houses; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we commend all Beta Rho of Theta Chi brothers, past and present, for their bond of friendship, common ideals and beliefs, and service to the community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we express our best wishes for the Beta Rho Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity's continued success and growth; and be it further

RESOLVED, That October 9, 2010 be proclaimed as Beta Rho of Theta Chi Day in the State of Illinois; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to the President of Illinois Wesleyan University, the Executive Director of Theta Chi Fraternity, Inc., the President of the Beta Rho Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity, and the President of the Beta Rho Chapter of Theta Chi Alumni Association as symbols of our respect and esteem.
