HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, On February 8, 1910, William Dickson Boyce, a resident of the City of Ottawa, executed and signed documents to officially incorporate and organize the Boy Scouts of America; and

WHEREAS, In celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America, Scouts throughout the United States will pay homage to a man who touched the lives of millions of youth and adult leaders through Scouting; and

WHEREAS, The Ottawa Scouting Museum has the unique opportunity to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America in the hometown and final resting place of W.D. Boyce; and

WHEREAS, The Ottawa Scouting Museum will host a "Scout Homecoming 2010" in Ottawa on June 10-13, 2010; the homecoming will feature an old fashioned Soap Box Derby, a 1910 campsite, a climbing wall, a rappelling tower, monkey bridges, a Dutch Oven Cook-Off, hiking trails, and Native American dancers, among many other activities; and

WHEREAS, The Ottawa Scouting Museum has served as a shining example of the Scouts and their contributions to mankind during this momentous anniversary; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the organizers and volunteers of the Ottawa Scouting Museum on the occasion of the museum's Scout Homecoming 2010 celebration and wish them continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Ottawa Scouting Museum as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
