HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Dr. Robert M. Unger upon his 64 years of continual service to the dental profession and to the oral health needs of the citizens of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Robert M. Unger was born to immigrant parents in Chicago's Fueller Park neighborhood; he graduated from De La Salle Institute in 1941; he attended Loyola University and received his Doctor of Dental Surgery from its Chicago College of Dental Surgery in 1946; and

WHEREAS, Upon completion of his military service he established a dental practice on the southwest side of Chicago, serving his patients for over sixty years; Dr. Robert M. Unger has been married to his wife, Dorothy, for 61 years, and together they raised seven children in the Garfield Park neighborhood of Chicago; he has been an active member in the St. Jane de Chantal Parish where he has served as an usher, lector, and as a member of numerous committees since 1956; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Robert M. Unger was instrumental in the fluoridation of the water supply in the State and the City of Chicago; he served in the Chicago Department of Health; and he provided free dental care to the students of the Lt. Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr., School for the Mentally Challenged; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Robert M. Unger has served as an officer of the Englewood Branch of the Chicago Dental Society and as its President in 1964; he went on to serve as the Councilman of the Illinois State Dental Society (ISDS), becoming an officer and serving as the President of the Illinois State Dental Society from 1972 to 1973; his devotion to the dental profession continued by his serving as the second Vice President of the American Dental Association from 1973 to 1974; and as the 8th District Trustee of the American Dental Association from 1980 to 1986; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Robert M. Unger's appreciation of the political process was instrumental in the formation of the Legislative Interest Committee of Illinois Dentist (LICID); in the early 1960s he traveled around the State of Illinois for over two years convincing fellow dentists of the need to be an active part in the political process; he was a long-term board member of LICID and the ISDS Governmental Affairs Committee; he is very proud to see LICID grow and transform into DENT-IL-PAC, the leading voice in the promotion and protection of the oral health of the citizens of Illinois; on the national level he has served as a member of the American Dental Associations Council on Governmental Affairs and as a member of the American Dental Political Action Committees; and

WHEREAS, Upon his retirement from private practice in 2007, Dr. Robert M. Unger remains active in organized dentistry and continues to serve as a mentor to many inside and outside the profession of dentistry; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Dr. Robert M. Unger for his lifetime of continual service to the profession of dentistry and the citizens of the State of Illinois; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Robert M. Unger as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
