HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Certain special programs, known commonly as TRIO Programs, are an integral part of the education of many disadvantaged students in the State of Illinois and in the United States; and

WHEREAS, TRIO Programs such as Upward Bound, Ronald F. McNair, Talent Search, Student Support Services, and Educational Opportunity Centers are designed to help students overcome social, cultural, and class barriers to higher education by providing information, counseling, academic instruction, tutoring, support, and encouragement; and

WHEREAS, TRIO Programs help provide the support that gives students the skills, hope, and motivation needed to succeed in college and to participate more fully in American society; and

WHEREAS, In the last three decades, over 2,400 TRIO Programs across the nation have produced thousands of educational success stories; and

WHEREAS, Both houses of the United States Congress have recognized the achievements and successes of these programs; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we honor and recognize the achievements of the TRIO Programs across the country and especially within the State of Illinois.
