HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Daniel Hanks of Chicago, who passed away on March 16, 2010; and

WHEREAS, He was born on November 10, 1925; he and his wife, Portia, were married for 62 years; and

WHEREAS, He attended McKinley High School in Chicago; he was a veteran of World War II where he served in the United States Navy aboard a ship in the South Pacific; and

WHEREAS, He worked in various positions, including International Harvester and McCormick Place; he was known for his "Green Thumb" and received many awards for his garden; he also received awards from the City of Chicago and local publications; and

WHEREAS, His hobbies were gardening and enjoying his grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his son, Ronald; and

WHEREAS, Daniel Hanks is survived by his wife, Portia; and his son, Reggie and his wife, Ozella; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his friends and family, the passing of Daniel Hanks; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Daniel Hanks as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
