HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The International Olympic Committee is currently contemplating the use of facilities in the City of Chicago for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games; and

WHEREAS, The World Shooting & Recreational Complex in Sparta is a public shooting and camping facility that features over 1500 acres of available space, including 250 acres of water, as well as 120 trap fields extending 3.5 miles, 2 sporting clays courses, and 24 skeet fields; over $35 million has been spent on the complex's world-class facilities; and

WHEREAS, The Grand American World Trap Shooting Championships, held at the World Shooting & Recreational Complex, have attracted thousands of competitors and tens of thousands of spectators since the complex began hosting the competition in August of 2006; and

WHEREAS, The use of the World Shooting & Recreational Complex will enable the citizens of the State of Illinois as a whole to benefit from the economic stimulus that the Olympics provide to local businesses; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we urge the International Olympic Committee to consider the use of the World Shooting & Recreational Complex in Sparta for Olympics shooting events in the event that the City of Chicago is picked as the host city for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the International Olympic Committee.
