SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
65 ILCS 5/11-122.1-2.1 new
65 ILCS 5/11-122.1-6 new

    Amends the Illinois Municipal Code. Provides that the corporate authorities of 2 or more municipalities may, by intergovernmental agreement, contract for the operation of a privately owned local passenger transportation system within and between the corporate boundaries of the municipalities upon terms agreeable to the municipalities and the owner of the local passenger transportation system. Provides that, subject to appropriation, the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity may award grants to municipalities that enter into a contract for the purpose of operating a local passenger transportation system under specified circumstances.

1     AN ACT concerning local government.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Illinois Municipal Code is amended by adding
5 Sections 11-122.1-2.1 and 11-122.1-6 as follows:
 
6     (65 ILCS 5/11-122.1-2.1 new)
7     Sec. 11-122.1-2.1. Intergovernmental agreements;
8 authority. The corporate authorities of 2 or more
9 municipalities may, by intergovernmental agreement, contract
10 for the operation of a privately owned local passenger
11 transportation system within and between the corporate
12 boundaries of the municipalities upon terms agreeable to the
13 municipalities and to the owner of the local passenger
14 transportation system.

16     Sec. 11-122.1-6. Grants for local passenger
17 transportation. Subject to appropriation, the Department of
18 Commerce and Economic Opportunity may award grants to
19 municipalities that enter into a contract pursuant to this
20 Division 122.1 for the purpose of operating a local passenger
21 transportation system.
