HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Amelia "ART" Rucker Thompson on the occasion of her art gallery opening at the Center on Halsted on October 15, 2021; and

WHEREAS, Amelia Rucker Thompson is a Chicago native, and she is a Black woman with lived experience in the third largest city in the United States; and

WHEREAS, Amelia Rucker Thompson is a wife of a veteran with PTSD, and her passion and talent for creating artwork was spurred at the Jesse Brown VA Hospital, where she discovered Art Therapy as a coping mechanism for stress and a source of emotional healing; when she is not creating art, she is a licensed barber and cosmetologist; and

WHEREAS, Amelia Rucker Thompson uses her art to visually portray a wide range of emotions and experience, and she uses colors, shapes, lines, and images to communicate powerful ideas, feelings, emotions, dreams, and aspirations; her mediums of artistic expression are acrylic, oil, watercolor, and ordinary things from everyday life; and

WHEREAS, Amelia Rucker Thompson seeks to create art that instills hope, universality, and altruism; she is inspired and motivated to create by her love for seeing colors come together to form abstract paintings; her art style has been described as Meditating Art, Abstract Expressionism, Expressionism, Modern Art, and Action Painting, and her art is appreciated by a wide audience base and has broad appeal; and

WHEREAS, Amelia Rucker Thompson is a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend to many; and

WHEREAS, Amelia Rucker Thompson will be showcasing her artwork at the Center on Halsted at 3656 North Halsted, Chicago on October 15, 2021; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Amelia "ART" Rucker Thompson on her art gallery opening at the Center on Halsted, and we wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Amelia Rucker Thompson as an expression of our esteem and respect.
