SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Richard Norbert "Dick" Friedel of Rock Island, who passed away on February 10, 2020; and

WHEREAS, Dick Friedel was born in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin to Norbert and Leone (Wood) Friedel on March 25, 1938; he graduated from St. Mary's Springs Academy in Fond du Lac; he served active and reserve military duty in the U.S. Army; he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin in 1961; he married Marlene J. Kordick at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Des Moines, Iowa on October 16, 1965; they settled permanently in Rock Island, where they raised their two children; and

WHEREAS, Dick Friedel was employed as a pharmaceutical sales representative by SmithKline & French Laboratories, which later became GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) through a series of corporate mergers; he retired from GSK in 2003, after 38 years of service; he then worked as a part-time driver for Hot Shots Nuclear Medicine in Davenport, Iowa; and

WHEREAS, Dick Friedel was deeply committed to his faith and was an active member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Rock Island, where he sang in the adult and funeral choirs and was a perpetual adoration volunteer; he was a member of the Allouez Council 658 Knights of Columbus, Edward J. Bader Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus; he was recognized by his council as Knight of the Year in 1967 and Senior Knight of the Year in 2009; and

WHEREAS, Dick Friedel enjoyed hunting and watching sports, especially the Green Bay Packers football team; he was also known for never forgetting a name or a detail about someone he met; he leaves a legacy of faith, hard work, determination, and love of family; and

WHEREAS, Dick Friedel was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Marlene; his parents; his brother, William; and his infant sister, Mary Therese; and

WHEREAS, Dick Friedel is survived by his daughter, Jennifer (James) Sautter; his son, Thomas (Dana) Friedel; his grandchildren, John, William, Monica, and Joseph; his siblings, Ronald (Sandy) Friedel, John (Jennifer) Friedel, and Julie (Tom) Petrie; and his many nieces, nephews, and extended family members; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Richard Norbert "Dick" Friedel and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dick Friedel as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
