SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Evelyn M. Turner of Lindenhurst, who passed away on September 26, 2008; and

WHEREAS, She was born on May 4, 1921 in Chicago; she graduated from Rockford College and served in World War II; and

WHEREAS, She became known as "the dime-store lady" after running the Grayslake Five and Dime with her friend, Winnie Manuel; and

WHEREAS, She was an active member and supporter of Grayslake United Protestant Church; her varied interest led her to support educational institutions, various conservation organizations, local "people oriented" organizations, and Grayslake Historical Society; and

WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her father, John; her mother, Elsie; her brother, John; and her good friend, Winnie Manuel; and

WHEREAS, She is survived by many good and close friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Evelyn Turner; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Evelyn M. Turner as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
