HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Ashland was established by the Illinois General Assembly in 1857; and

WHEREAS, Ashland grew in size rapidly due to the productive capacity of the surrounding farmland, the presence of two intersecting railroads, and the hard work and perseverance of it's early pioneers and settlers; and

WHEREAS, The citizens of Ashland are grateful to the early pioneers and settlers for their important role in founding the village and continue to take great pride in the village's natural and historic treasures; and

WHEREAS, Ashland is honoring the 150th anniversary of being formed as a village by the General Assembly of the State of Illinois and is recognizing the hard work and dedication of those who have preceded them in history, so that they may preserve the legacy of the village; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that recognize the year 2007 as Ashland's Sesquicentennial Year and we encourage all Ashland citizens to recognize the many important contributions made by the people of Ashland and the rich history it has contributed to the State of Illinois; and we encourage our citizens to observe this important event with appropriate ceremonies and activities; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the citizens of Ashland as a symbol of our recognition.
