HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Theresa Williams, Elementary Education Teacher for Harvey School District 152, on her retirement; and

WHEREAS, Theresa Williams earned her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Roosevelt University in Chicago in 1973 and her Masters of Education in Curriculum Design from Indiana Wesleyan University in 1995; and

WHEREAS, Theresa Williams has a long and distinguished career in public school education; she has worked as a Elementary Education Teacher for Harvey School District 152 since September 1973; she served as a Chapter 7 Reading Resource Teacher where she gave individualized instruction to at-risk and advanced placement students from 1976 to 1977; she has served as an Intermediate Literacy Coach since September 2002, where she trains intermediate teachers on newly adopted comprehension school reform models in the areas of reading and writing, as well as providing staff development and in service training sessions; and

WHEREAS, Theresa Williams has been involved in many education-based organizations; she served as the HEA Special Services Chairperson from 1978 to 1982; she was the HEA Vice President and IPACE Chairperson from 1985 to 1988; she served on the Planning Committee for the District 152 Back to School parade and fair in 1990; she served on various state committees for the IEA from 1985 to 1995; she was the Chairperson for Friendship Night for the NEA convention in July 2000; and she served as the HEA President from 2002 to 2005; and

WHEREAS, A retirement celebration will be held in Theresa's honor on May 18th, 2007; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Theresa Williams on her many years of service to Harvey School District 152 and wish her continued success and happiness in her retirement years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Theresa Williams as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
