HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Geraldine "Travis" Hooten on her retirement from the City of Chicago Department of Human Services; and

WHEREAS, Geraldine Hooten was born in Greenwood, Mississippi on April 16, 1937; her parents were Ellis Travis, Sr. and Elnora Wilson Travis; and

WHEREAS, She moved to Chicago in 1940; she married Wilbert Hooten, Sr., on June 5, 1954 and together they had five children, Denise, Wilbert, Jr., Derrel, Avis, and Michael; and

WHEREAS, Geraldine Hooten began working with the City of Chicago Department of Human Services in 1965; in 1988 she received a Certificate of National Merit from the National Recognition Program of the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development; and

WHEREAS, Geraldine Hooten has resided at the Pioneer Village Phase IV apartments for 19 years; she is been an active member of South Park Baptist Church since 1972; she is a member of the Walter Thornton Memorial Auxiliary; she is an honorary member of Usher Board No. 2; and she volunteered to assist with the Katrina Relief Project hosted by her church; Geraldine loves cooking for her church, her family, and her friends; and she loves the Lord and is a blessing to those she meets; and

WHEREAS, Geraldine Hooten retired from the City of Chicago Department of Human Services in 2003 after 38 years of service; she served on the Chicago Community on Urban Development "War on Poverty Program"; she served the Department of Human Services as Community Representative Recruiter, a Urban Life Interviewer, and an Emergency Services Worker/Crisis Intervention; she also was a dispatcher working with the sanitation, fire, and police Departments; and she worked as a Social Service Assistant providing counseling and referral services for emergencies; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Geraldine "Travis" Hooten on her retirement from the City of Chicago Department of Human Services and wish her continued good fortune in her future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Geraldine Hooten as a symbol of our respect.
