HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the
3 State of Illinois wish to recognize Jennifer Hudson on her
4 career and accomplishments; and
 
5     WHEREAS, She won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress at
6 the 79th annual Academy Awards for her debut role as "Effie
7 Melody White" in the movie Dreamgirls; she beat out over 750
8 other hopefuls for the role; and
 
9     WHEREAS, For her performance in Dreamgirls, she won the
10 National Board of Review for "Breakthrough Performance", the
11 New York Critics Award, the Phoenix Film Critic's Society
12 Award, the Golden Satellite Award, the Golden Globe Award, and
13 the British Film Award; and
 
14     WHEREAS, She first became nationally known when she became
15 one of the twelve finalists on the third season of the reality
16 television show American Idol in 2004; and
 
17     WHEREAS, In the fall of 2002 she started her journey by
18 successfully landing a major role as "Calliope" in the play
19 Disney Wonder for the Disney cruise line, leaving in August
20 2003 to pursue American Idol; and

1     WHEREAS, She was born on September 12, 1981 and grew up on
2 the south side of Chicago and began singing in the church choir
3 at age seven; she is a 1999 graduate of Dunbar Vocational High
4 School; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich recently
6 proclaimed Monday, February 26, 2007 as "Jennifer Hudson Day";
7 therefore, be it
 
8     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
9 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
10 recognize Jennifer Hudson on the success she achieved in her
11 career so far and wish her a great future; and be it further
 
12     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13 presented to Jennifer Hudson as a token of our esteem.
