HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate the residents of
4 the Village of Bath on the occasion of receiving a 2008
5 Governor's Home Town Award from the Illinois Department of
6 Commerce and Economic Opportunity; and
 
7     WHEREAS, The Governor's Home Town Awards are awarded by the
8 Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity to
9 recognize hard-working and committed volunteers within the
10 State who greatly improve the communities in which they live;
11 the awards are presented in a number of categories, based on
12 community population; and
 
13     WHEREAS, After the devastating floods in 1993, the Village
14 of Bath was faced with a difficult decision in the aftermath of
15 whether to turn the village historic grade school into an
16 alumni museum or to renovate it into a community center and
17 storm shelter; after a series of community meetings, the
18 residents of Bath decided to create a community center; more
19 than 30 volunteers committed to regularly scheduled work days
20 clearing debris, scraping paint, and remodeling the building;
21 the hard work and long hours paid off handsomely, with the
22 historic grade school now housing a library annex, community
23 center, storm shelter, and village offices; and

1     WHEREAS, The residents of the Village of Bath serve as
2 models of generosity, dedication, and integrity for the people
3 of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it
 
4     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
5 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
6 congratulate the residents of the Village of Bath on the
7 occasion of receiving a 2008 Governor's Home Town Award and
8 wish them continued success and happiness in the future; and be
9 it further
 
10     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11 presented to the Bath Village Board as a symbol of our esteem
12 and respect.
