HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate the residents of the Village of Bath on the occasion of receiving a 2008 Governor's Home Town Award from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity; and

WHEREAS, The Governor's Home Town Awards are awarded by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity to recognize hard-working and committed volunteers within the State who greatly improve the communities in which they live; the awards are presented in a number of categories, based on community population; and

WHEREAS, After the devastating floods in 1993, the Village of Bath was faced with a difficult decision in the aftermath of whether to turn the village historic grade school into an alumni museum or to renovate it into a community center and storm shelter; after a series of community meetings, the residents of Bath decided to create a community center; more than 30 volunteers committed to regularly scheduled work days clearing debris, scraping paint, and remodeling the building; the hard work and long hours paid off handsomely, with the historic grade school now housing a library annex, community center, storm shelter, and village offices; and

WHEREAS, The residents of the Village of Bath serve as models of generosity, dedication, and integrity for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the residents of the Village of Bath on the occasion of receiving a 2008 Governor's Home Town Award and wish them continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Bath Village Board as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
