HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Rubin Lopez of Chicago on the occasion of his 80th birthday on September 26, 2008; and

WHEREAS, Rubin Lopez was born on September 26, 1928 in Chicago; he was the oldest of the six children of Daniel and Elisa (Gracian) Lopez; and

WHEREAS, Rubin Lopez married Jeanine Hill in 1952; together, they have seven children, Rory, Margarita (Sue), Daniel, Rubin, James, Paul, and Kevin; and

WHEREAS, Rubin Lopez has lived on the southeast side of Chicago his entire life and attended Tilden High School; and

WHEREAS, Rubin Lopez joined the United States Marine Corps in 1946; after serving two years, he was placed in the reserves; in 1951, he was called back to active duty during the Korean Conflict; he was discharged in 1952, having achieved the rank of Sergeant; and

WHEREAS, Rubin Lopez worked at the Illinois Central train station, the Studebaker manufacturing plant, Ringsby United Trucking, and the Carstensen Trucking Company, while raising his children at the same time; and

WHEREAS, Rubin Lopez enjoys Notre Dame football, horse racing, airplanes (particularly historic military aircraft), and, most of all, his family; and

WHEREAS, Rubin Lopez has fourteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Rubin Lopez of Chicago on the occasion of his 80th birthday and wish him many happy and healthy years to come; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Rubin Lopez as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
