HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Stella Ruth Pettiford on the occasion of her 90th birthday on April 10, 2008; and

WHEREAS, Stella Ruth Pettiford was born on April 10, 1918 and grew up in Springfield; she later moved to Marion, Indiana, where she married Theodore Pettiford in 1942; he passed away in 1991; and

WHEREAS, Stella Ruth Pettiford lived in Detroit, Michigan, where she worked as a beautician, as an employee of the Department of Internal Revenue Service, and as an employee of the Michigan Employment Security Commission, retiring after 27 ˝ years of dedicated service; she returned to Springfield in 1997; and

WHEREAS, Stella Ruth Pettiford attended Lewis Business College; and

WHEREAS, Stella Ruth Pettiford is a member of the Second Timothy Baptist Church and sings with the Second Timothy Baptist Church Mass Choir, the Gloria Harris Ensemble, and the Women's Choir; she is a member of the Mother's Board and serves as the President of the Frances F. McCoy Missionary Circle; she is also a member of the Voices of Love, Joy and Peace, and the East Side Senior Citizen's Group; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Stella Ruth Pettiford on the occasion of her 90th birthday and wish her continued happiness and good health in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Stella Ruth Pettiford as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
