HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, On February 13, 1858, James K. Cox, Nancy Cox, Robert Cox, Anna Cox, William A. Langston, and Susannah Langston caused to be surveyed and plotted in blocks, lots, streets, and alleys, one hundred and ten acres of land to be used as a Town to be known by the name of "Manito"; and

WHEREAS, These individuals, through their generosity and foresight, donated to the public that part of the town known as "Broadway", which was reserved for the use of the Illinois River Railroad Company, as well as land to be used for a general depot, which caused the Town to be prosperous and enduring; and

WHEREAS, On February 13, 2008, the Village of Manito will celebrate its 150th year; and

WHEREAS, The citizens of Manito, along with their friends and neighbors, will host several Sesquicentennial events to commemorate their heritage; and

WHEREAS, The celebration of Manito's Sesquicentennial is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that will be remembered by all of its citizens, young and old; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the citizens of the Village of Manito on the occasion of the village's 150th year and wish them continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be given to the Mayor of Manito as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
