SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
720 ILCS 5/12-20.6 new

    Amends the Criminal Code of 1961. Provides that it is a Class A misdemeanor for any person to display any plastinated human remains in the State of Illinois until: (1) the person submits to the Illinois Attorney General written documentation of the cause of death and origin of the remains; and (2) the person submits to the Illinois Attorney General proof that the decedent consented to the use of his or her remains in such a manner.

1     AN ACT concerning criminal law.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Criminal Code of 1961 is amended by adding
5 Section 12-20.6 as follows:
 
6     (720 ILCS 5/12-20.6 new)
7     Sec. 12-20.6. Display of plastinated human remains.
8     (a) Definition. For the purposes of this Section,
9 "plastinated human remains" means human remains, including
10 tissues, organs, and other body parts, that are preserved from
11 decay by replacing the water and fats in the human remains with
12 a polymer.
13     (b) Offense. It is unlawful for any person to display any
14 plastinated human remains in the State of Illinois until:
15         (1) the person submits to the Illinois Attorney General
16     written documentation of the cause of death and origin of
17     the remains; and
18         (2) the person submits to the Illinois Attorney General
19     proof that the decedent consented to the use of his or her
20     remains in such a manner.
21     (c) Sentence. Any person who violates this Section is
22 guilty of a Class A misdemeanor.
