1     AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by changing
5 Section 3-806 and by adding Section 3-806.7 as follows:
 
6     (625 ILCS 5/3-806)  (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 3-806)
7     Sec. 3-806. Registration Fees; Motor Vehicles of the First
8 Division. Every owner of any other motor vehicle of the first
9 division, except as provided in Sections 3-804, 3-805, 3-806.3,
10 3-806.7 and 3-808, and every second division vehicle weighing
11 8,000 pounds or less, shall pay the Secretary of State an
12 annual registration fee at the following rates:

24 personnel.
25     (a) Beginning with the 2010 registration year, the standard

1 registration fee set forth in Section 3-806 of this Code for
2 passenger motor vehicles of the first division and motor
3 vehicles of the second division weighing not more than 8,000
4 pounds and registered under Section 3-815 of this Code, shall
5 be reduced by 50% for any Illinois vehicle owner who was on
6 active duty as a member of the armed forces of the United
7 States and stationed outside of the United States for a period
8 of 90 days or longer during the preceding registration year.
9     (b) Illinois residents who are members of the armed forces
10 of the United States and who have been stationed outside of the
11 United States for a period of 6 months or longer, and who
12 placed their registered motor vehicle in storage during the
13 time they served abroad, shall be entitled to credit for the
14 unused portion of that registration when they renew the
15 registration of that vehicle upon their return to the United
16 States. For each month or part thereof that the vehicle was in
17 storage and had current registration, the member of the armed
18 forces shall receive one month of registration without charge.
 
19     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect July 1,
20 2008.
