SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
510 ILCS 20/2d new

    Amends the Bees and Apiaries Act. Requires the Department of Agriculture to adopt rules requiring any owner of property that is adjacent to a registered apiary to: (i) establish a buffer zone when spraying pesticides that are potentially harmful to bees; or (ii) use only pesticides that are not harmful to bees. Effective immediately.

1     AN ACT concerning animals.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Bees and Apiaries Act is amended by adding
5 Section 2d as follows:
 
6     (510 ILCS 20/2d new)
7     Sec. 2d. Pesticide buffer zones. The Department shall adopt
8 rules requiring any owner of property that is adjacent to a
9 registered apiary to: (i) establish a buffer zone when spraying
10 pesticides that are potentially harmful to bees; or (ii) use
11 only pesticides that are not harmful to bees.
 
12     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
13 becoming law.
