    Amends the Election Code. Prohibits the use of voting equipment or systems other than optical scan technology voting systems.

1     AN ACT concerning elections.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Election Code is amended by changing Section
5 24B-1 as follows:
 
6     (10 ILCS 5/24B-1)
7     Sec. 24B-1. Purpose. The purpose of this Article is to
8 require authorize the use of Precinct Tabulation Optical Scan
9 Technology voting systems approved by the State Board of
10 Elections. In using Precinct Tabulation Optical Scan
11 Technology, the voters or precinct judges record votes by means
12 of inserting marked ballots in scanning and tabulating
13 machines, which machines have voting defect identification
14 capability, and are so designed that ballots will be counted by
15 such machines at one or more counting places. This Article does
16 not apply to voting systems without voting defect
17 identification technology capability. This Article requires
18 authorizes the use of Precinct Tabulation Optical Scan
19 Technology voting systems for both central counting and
20 in-precinct counting applications.
21     On and after the effective date of this amendatory Act of
22 the 95th General Assembly, notwithstanding any provision of
23 this Code to the contrary, the use of any ballots and voting

1 equipment and systems other than as provided in this Article is
2 prohibited.
