SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
815 ILCS 505/2ZZ new

    Amends the Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act. Prohibits a business from selling merchandise or services over the Internet to any Illinois resident unless that business has a customer service telephone number that it provides to the Illinois resident prior to the sale of the merchandise or services.

1     AN ACT concerning business.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business
5 Practices Act is amended by adding Section 2ZZ as follows:
 
6     (815 ILCS 505/2ZZ new)
7     Sec. 2ZZ. Internet business; phone number.
8     (a) No business shall sell merchandise or services over the
9 Internet to any Illinois resident unless that business has a
10 customer service telephone number that it provides to the
11 Illinois resident prior to the sale of the merchandise or
12 services.
13     (b) Any business that violates this Section commits an
14 unlawful practice within the meaning of this Act.
15     (c) For purposes of this Section, "business" means any
16 corporation, partnership, individual, sole proprietorship,
17 joint stock company, joint venture, or other private legal
18 entity.
