SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Michael David "Mike" Cahill, who
4passed away on August 23, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mike Cahill was born to Donald and Edith (Tunis)
6Cahill Meier in Chicago on July 9, 1947; he was raised in Zion;
7he attended Oak Park High School; he attended Illinois State
8University (ISU); while there, he met and married Rose Ann
9"Rosie" Cain at the First Christian Church in Henry on August
1026, 1967; his college education was interrupted when he was
11drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served as a paratrooper in
12Vietnam for 13 months and received many awards for his
13service, including the Bronze Star; upon completion of his
14military duty, he returned to ISU and earned his teaching
15degree; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Mike Cahill was a highly respected teacher at
17Havana High School and Havana Junior High School before
18retiring in 2005; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Mike Cahill was a life member of VFW Post #6408,
20where he served as quartermaster and commander for several
21years; he was also a member of the American Legion in Henry;
22and

1    WHEREAS, Mike Cahill enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing,
2and reading books; he loved his dogs and cat; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Mike Cahill was preceded in death by his parents
4and his cousin, Nancy Mendez; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mike Cahill is survived by his wife of 55 years,
6Rose Ann Cahill; his half-sister, Pam Meier; his stepsister,
7Susan Riley; his stepbrother, Bob Meier; and his cousins,
8Margaret Bareika, Danny Schulz, and Bert Blakeway; therefore,
9be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12Michael David "Mike" Cahill and extend our sincere condolences
13to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
14it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Mike Cahill as an expression of our
17deepest sympathy.
