SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
225 ILCS 320/18.1 new

    Amends the Illinois Plumbing License Law. Provides that, beginning on July 1, 2024, food service establishments with less than 2,000 square feet may provide one unisex, readily accessible restroom facility for the public. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning regulation.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Plumbing License Law is amended by
5adding Section 18.1 as follows:
 
6    (225 ILCS 320/18.1 new)
7    Sec. 18.1. Unisex restrooms in low-occupancy dining
8establishment.
9    (a) As used in this Section:
10        "Food service establishment" means any establishment
11    selling or serving, to the public, food or liquid
12    beverages that can be consumed on the premises.
13        "Readily accessible" means direct access without the
14    necessity of removing or moving any panel, door, or
15    similar obstruction.
16        "Unisex restroom" means a restroom shared by males and
17    females and having only one water closet and one lavatory
18    located in the same room. In addition, a single urinal may
19    be installed.
20    (b) Beginning on July 1, 2024, food service establishments
21with less than 2,000 square feet may provide one unisex,
22readily accessible restroom facility for the public.

1    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
2becoming law.
