HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Charlotte M. (Ryan) Ten Bruin on the occasion of her 100th birthday on October 24, 1920; and

WHEREAS, Charlotte Ten Bruin was born on October 24, 1920, the fourth of eight children in her family; she was always active and determined from a very young age; and

WHEREAS, Charlotte Ten Bruin attended St. Philomena High School; in her mid-teens, while both a student and helping to care for her younger siblings, she got a job at a bakery to assist with the family's expenses; and

WHEREAS, Charlotte Ten Bruin married Ralph Ten Bruin on May 24, 1941; they were married for 21 years, and he preceded her in death in 1962, due to an automobile accident; they had two children together, Wayne and Dean; Wayne, born in 1946, is now 74 years old; Dean, born in 1948, is now 72 years old; and

WHEREAS, Charlotte Ten Bruin worked at Echo Products during World War II, where she helped to manufacture munitions for the war effort; and

WHEREAS, Charlotte Ten Bruin subsequently held many roles; she managed apartment buildings; she ran a bed and breakfast in Colorado; after returning to the Midwest, she worked in manufacturing and as a nursing assistant in a nursing home; she held numerous retail positions; lastly, she worked as a child caregiver in Belvidere; and

WHEREAS, Charlotte Ten Bruin lived a full, independent life in her Belvidere home, where she tended her flowers, cut the grass, and took care of herself and her home until a fall caused her to lose those abilities last year; and

WHEREAS, Charlotte Ten Bruin moved into a nursing home in Belvidere on September 4, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Charlotte Ten Bruin has always been dedicated to her family and friends and has always worked hard to lead a successful life; she remains a loving and determined woman to this day; and

WHEREAS, Charlotte Ten Bruin's children and grandchildren planned to hold a party to celebrate her 100 years on October 24, 2020, which did not happen due to the COVID-19 pandemic; instead, her family held a through-the-window celebration, which made her happy; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Charlotte M. Ten Bruin on the occasion of her 100th birthday, and we wish her many happy and healthy years to come; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Charlotte Ten Bruin as an expression of our esteem and respect.
