HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, National Catholic Schools Week, the annual
3celebration of Catholic education in the United States, began
4in 1974; it begins on the last Sunday in January and runs all
5week; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Schools typically observe the annual celebration
7with masses, open houses, and other activities for students,
8families, parishioners, and community members; through these
9events, schools focus on the value Catholic education provides
10to young people and its contributions to churches, communities,
11and the nation; and
 
12    WHEREAS, The theme for National Catholic Schools Week 2019
13was "Catholic Schools: Learn. Serve. Lead. Succeed"; the theme
14encompasses the core values that can be found in Catholic
15schools across the country; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Catholic Schools in Illinois are recognized for
17their academic excellence and their ability to provide students
18with an exceptional scholastic experience; In Illinois,
19Catholic schools like St. Philip Neri instill the core values
20of mercy, integrity, and service that results in graduates
21being well prepared for secondary education and lifelong
22learning; and

1    WHEREAS, St. Philip Neri has been a strong presence in the
2South Shore Community since it first opened in 1913; its
3mission is to provide a high-quality 21st century Catholic
4STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics)
5education to children of diverse religious affiliations; and
 
6    WHEREAS, St. Philip Neri School is prepared to carry on its
7mission in timely and relevant ways, while continuing to teach
8and nurture students in a strong curriculum; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
10HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
11we commend Catholic schools in Illinois as they teach students
12to become future leaders, faith-filled disciples, and enriched
13citizens of their communities, and we recognize St. Philip Neri
14for the role it plays in the Catholic education of students in
15Illinois; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
17presented to St. Philip Neri School.
