HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Manuel de Jesus Marques Martinez on the occasion of his 90th birthday; and

WHEREAS, Manuel Martinez was born in Guanajay, Cuba to Candida Martinez and Manuel Marques on August 11, 1928; he was the oldest of five siblings, Jorge, Sergio, Carlos, Antonio, and Rene; always excelling in mathematics, he attended grade school at La Escuela de Saavedra and high school at El Instituto #1 de Havana; he graduated from La Universidad de Havana with a degree in public accounting; and

WHEREAS, Manuel Martinez married Maria Antonia Fernandez de Garcia on August 8, 1954, and they had two children, Manuel Enrique "Manny" (Cynthia M. Donka) and Maria Antonietta "Marita" (James G. Long); they have six grandchildren, Brittany Amelia, Christopher Manuel, Marisa Alyce, Samantha Maria, James Daniel, and Michael Manuel; and

WHEREAS, In Cuba, Manuel Martinez worked for La Fabrica de Zapatos de Fefo from 1949 to 1950, U.S. Roberts from 1950 to 1959, and the Ministerio de Hacienda en el Gobierno de Fidel Castro, El Departamente de Impuestos (IRS) from 1959 to 1961; and

WHEREAS, Manuel Martinez and his family immigrated to the U.S. in April of 1962; they arrived in Miami and eventually settled in Chicago; and

WHEREAS, From 1962 to 1991, Manuel Martinez worked for Fel-Products, Inc. in Illinois; he retired in 1991; and

WHEREAS, Manuel Martinez and his wife have especially enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren and traveling the world; in 1996, they bought a condo on the beach in Hollywood, Florida and settled there full-time in 2000; and

WHEREAS, Manuel Martinez taught his children the value of hard work, that teamwork with your spouse is a necessity and an expression of love, and that family is the number one priority in life; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Manuel de Jesus Marques Martinez on his 90th birthday, and we wish him many more wonderful years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Manuel Martinez as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
