SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
ILCON Art. X, Sec. 2. rep.

    Proposes to amend the Education Article of the Illinois Constitution by repealing the Section (i) that creates the State Board of Education and (ii) that requires the State Board of Education to appoint a chief State educational officer. Effective on the July 1 next following the date of the election when the Constitutional Amendment is adopted.

CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT

 
3     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
4 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
5 CONCURRING HEREIN, that there shall be submitted to the
6 electors of the State for adoption or rejection at the general
7 election next occurring at least 6 months after the adoption of
8 this resolution a proposition to amend Section 2 of Article X
9 of the Illinois Constitution as follows:

13 SECTION 2. STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION - CHIEF STATE EDUCATIONAL
14 OFFICER (REPEALED)
15     (a) There is created a State Board of Education to be
16 elected or selected on a regional basis. The number of members,
17 their qualifications, terms of office and manner of election or
18 selection shall be provided by law. The Board, except as
19 limited by law, may establish goals, determine policies,
20 provide for planning and evaluating education programs and
21 recommend financing. The Board shall have such other duties and
22 powers as provided by law.
23     (b) The State Board of Education shall appoint a chief
24 state educational officer.

SCHEDULE
27     This Constitutional Amendment takes effect on the July 1
28 next following the date of the election when this
29 Constitutional Amendment is adopted.
