    Amends the Illinois Police Training Act. Makes a technical change in a Section concerning the purposes of the Act.

1     AN ACT concerning local government.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Illinois Police Training Act is amended by
5 changing Section 1 as follows:
 
6     (50 ILCS 705/1)  (from Ch. 85, par. 501)
7     Sec. 1. It is hereby declared as a matter of legislative
8 determination that that in order to promote and protect citizen
9 health, safety and welfare, it is necessary and in the public
10 interest to provide for the creation of the Illinois Law
11 Enforcement Training Standards Board for the purpose of
12 encouraging and aiding municipalities, counties, park
13 districts, State controlled universities, colleges, and public
14 community colleges, and other local governmental agencies of
15 this State and participating State agencies in their efforts to
16 raise the level of law enforcement by upgrading and maintaining
17 a high level of training and standards for law enforcement
18 executives and officers, county corrections officers,
19 sheriffs, county coroners, and law enforcement support
20 personnel under this Act. It is declared to be the
21 responsibility of the board to ensure the required
22 participation of the pertinent local governmental units in the
23 programs established under this Act, to encourage the voluntary
24 participation of other local governmental units and
25 participating State agencies, to set standards, develop and
26 provide quality training and education, and to aid in the
27 establishment of adequate training facilities.
